Gerber Road Railroad Repairs Prompted October 28 Closure Near Proberta; Drivers Should Verify Current Access

PROBERTA, Calif. — Tehama County Public Works announced a short-term traffic restriction near Proberta and Gerber during railroad-related work earlier this week.

The department’s road closure page posted an announcement that Gerber Road would be closed from the San Benito Avenue intersection to Highway 99W on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. for railroad repairs.

Why drivers in Proberta should know

Although the notice concerns Gerber rather than a street inside Proberta, both communities use nearby Highway 99W connections to reach regional businesses, schools and other destinations. Construction restrictions near railroad approaches can cause detours even for people starting their trip in a neighboring settlement.

Is the closure still active?

The announced time has passed. The public works posting is a record of a planned October 28 restriction, not confirmation that the road remains closed on October 31. The notice does not certify exactly when crews completed their work or whether a new phase has been scheduled.

Drivers should consult the county’s regularly updated closure information and follow barriers and temporary signs on the road. A social media photograph or earlier notice should not replace current conditions.
